A dryer is a mechanical device that uses heat to vaporize and remove moisture (generally water or other volatile liquid components) from a material, thereby obtaining a solid material with a specified moisture content. It is a type of mechanical equipment used to achieve the drying process of materials.
Modern dryers initially used batch-operation fixed-bed dryers. The use of tunnel dryers in the mid-19th century marked the development of dryers from batch to continuous operation. Most industrial products require drying at some stage of production, and the materials need a specific moisture content for processing, shaping, or granulation. Dryers can be classified according to different characteristics such as operating process, operating pressure, heating method, movement of wet materials, or structure.
